呐喊:为了中国曾经的摇滚(2003) by 陆凌涛 and 李洋 contains an interview on page 336-344 in which Huang argues that rock in China didn't manage to enlarge its audience. Chinese rock moved from anger (around 1989) to peacefulness and commerce. Huang also points to (essential) differences of Chinese and Western culture as the reason for the lack of popularity of rock in China: the Chinese are less naive, they think things through 周全 and choose the Golden Middle 中庸.
